The Pink Ball Test
The world’s largest cricket stadium, Narendra Modi stadium has hosted its first match on 24th February. This was a pink ball test match and the home side has won it with 10 wickets. India has wrapped up the game within 2 days. The pitch favoured spinners. Indian Spinners were incredible as they picked up 18 wickets in this match. Axar Patel had a fifer in both innings while Ravichandran Ashwin reached the milestone of 400 test wickets.
England batsmen were miserable with the bat. England won the toss and elected to bat first. They were all out for 112 with a gritty knock of 53 from opener Zak Crawley. Team India also struggled with the bat. They managed to have a mere lead of 33 runs with contributions from Rohit Sharma (66) and Skipper Virat Kohli (27). India was in a good position by the end of day 1 with a score of 99/3. England’s Captain Joe Root has surprised everyone with his career-best performance of 8/5 and restricted India’s total to 145.
England failed to score big in the second innings too. England scored only 81 runs with a contribution of 25 runs from Ben Stokes. Indian Spinners were exceptional and picked up wickets at regular intervals.
Later in the evening, Indian openers Shubman Gill and Rohit Sharma chased down the target of 49 in just 7.4 overs.
With this win, India leads the World Test Championship and England is out of contention for the finals of this tournament.
